ANNA C. ALDRICH HOWARD UNDERHILL, VT./DAVENPORT, FLA. — Anna C. Aldrich Howard, 94, of Davenport, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at her home in Fla. Ann was born in Greensburg, Pa., on Feb. 24, 1906, the daughter of Edward and Lyda (Black) Caldwell.

She was a member of the United Church of Underhill. She was married to Montague Howard, Jr., who predeceased her in 1977. Ann received her education in Greensburg, Pa., graduating from Greensburg High School in 1924. She attended Indiana State Teachers College, where she received her teaching degree. Ann began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Bortz, Pa. She later taught in Export, Pa., for 10 years.

Ann married Harold E. Aldrich in 1935, and they resided in Buffalo, N.Y., where they started their family. The family was transferred to Burlington, Vt. in 1943. Ann became widowed in 1948, and resumed her teaching career as first and second grade teacher at Underhill I.D. for 24 years, retiring in 1972. Ann was active in many religious and civic organizations. She was presently a member of Mary C. Burdick Chapter #6, Bethany Chapter #71, Order of the Eastern Star and King's Daughters. Ann was a former member of Jeri-Hill Home Dem, XYZ Senior Citizens, Retired Teachers Association, Athena Club and Business and Professional Women's Organization. Ann was a volunteer for Jericho Historical Society for the Old Mill, Meals on Wheels and many church committees. Ann enjoyed her many travels. She traveled to Europe and the Holy Lands, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and much of the Continental United States and Canada.

Ann will be remembered for her love and willingness to share herself with so many others. In addition to those, Ann is survived by her five children and four stepchildren, Joanne (Aldrich) Malloy of Davenport, Fla., Ross and Dorothy Aldrich of Ithaca, N.Y., Bobby and Donna Aldrich of Colchester, Jerry and Sally Aldrich of Underhill, Jack and Connie Aldrich of Jeffersonville, Donald and Sherry Howard of Virginia Beach, Va., Ann (Howard) and John Schillhammer of South Burlington, Jack Howard of Hardwick, and Susan (Howard) and Greg Hooper of Underhill; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and three nieces, a nephew, and a cousin from Greenburg, Pa.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2000, in the Underhill Flats Cemetery, Park Street, Underhill, Vt.
