Daniel Roberts was born in Montgomery County, Virginia in 1777, it is believed he is the 7th of Cornelius Roberts 12 children. Daniel was 11 years old when his father was killed by Indians.

In about 1798 Daniel Roberts married Elizabeth Kiser in Russell County, Virginia. There were several Kiser families in Russell County at that time. Mary Childers married Joseph Kiser Jr who was the son of Joseph Kiser Sr and grandson of Charles Keyser and Elizabeth Shelly. Elizabeth Kiser was probably also a descendant of this Charles Keyser/Kiser.

Daniel and Elizabeth had two children in Russell County, before moving in 1804 to Tennessee where several of Daniel's brothers and sisters were living. By 1816 seven more children had been born and the family had moved to Alabama, where they were one of the first settlers.

In 1830 the Choctaw Indians signed a treaty ceding all of their land east of the Mississippi River, and in about 1835 Daniel moved from Pickens County, AL to the newly formed Winston County, Mississippi.

Elizabeth Kiser died sometime in the 1830s either before or after the move to Mississippi. She and Daniel had a total of 14 children.

In 1839 at the age of 62 Daniel married Mariah Swann who was only 24. This was her second marriage as well. She had two children by her first husband, Isaac and James and 5 children by Daniel.

Daniel died in about 1847 at about age 70, and Mariah became a widow again at age 32. She never remarried. In 1856, she and her children moved to Red River County, Texas where her brother Milton M. Swann was living, and she remained in Texas until she died at the home of her son, Woodfin Roberts, at the age of 77.
