She was the daughter of Samuel Morris Benton (1720 Va.-1770 N.C.) & Frances Kimbrough (abt.1723 Va.-1811 N.C.). She was born in New Kent Co., Virginia in June 1750 per Virginia records. She married Cornelius "Neal" M. Roberts (1749 Ire.-1788 Va.) in 1767 in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. Their first child, Mary Ellen was born there in 1768. They then moved to Botetourt Co., Virginia (now Greyson Co.). Eight more children were born there. They were: Elizabeth (1770-1833), James R.(1772-1858), Nathan E.(1774-1850), Amelia "Milly"(1775-1865), Daniel (1777-1847), Jesse (1778-1857), Susanna (1780-??) & Sanai "Sena"(1781-1874). Then the family moved to Washington Co., Virginia (now Russell Co.). Their last three children were born there. They were: Archibald (1784-1860), Isaac (1786-1839) & Mourning (1788-1866). Cornelius Roberts was killed by Indians on June 24,1788. She being alone with children, soon married the Rev. John Frost, a Baptist Minister, in about 1790. She moved with him to Clark Co., Kentucky and lived there until John Frost died in 1830. It is not sure whether she moved to Tennessee with the Frost Family or stayed in Kentucky with some of her children from her first marriage who had moved to Green Co., Kentucky.

Frances Kimbrough was the daughter of Buckley Kimbrough & Elizabeth English. This Mary Benton was not the daughter of Zeke B. Benton & Nancy A. Gooch. Their daughter Mary was born later in 1780.
