Mrs. K. Miller, pioneer resident of Colorado and Huerfano County, died Saturday afternoon at her home near Badito. She was 85 years old. Mrs. Miller was born at Ringgold, Texas. During her early girlhood she moved to Fort Leavenworth, Kan., where she received her education in a Catholic school. She later came to Fort Garland, where her mother, one of the early settlers in Colorado, cooked for the soldiers at the post. Mrs. Miller's maiden name was Katie Kiger, but she was adopted by John McLaughlin. Her step-brother, John McLaughlin, Jr., until two years ago, had been separated from her more than forty years. Mr. McLaughlin spent the summers of 1915 and 1926 with her.
After her marriage to Richard Miller, she moved to St. Mary's with her husband, where she worked in the post office. Eleven children were born to the union, eight of whom are still living. She leaves, in addition to a host of friends, members of the immediate family and 38 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Members of the immediate family are John McLaughlin, a brother, of Pasco, Wash.; Mrs. Chas. Romer, a half-sister, of Santa Anna, Calif.; Mrs. Geo. Landis, Apache; Mrs. Joe Landis, Pryor; Mrs. Edward Quine, Ravenwood; Mrs. N.L. Benson, Walsenburg; Mrs. Archie Miller, Walsenburg, all sisters, and William Miller, Badito; Edward, Tioga; Garfield, city. The funeral took place at 10 O'clock this morning from the Catholic Church. Internment was in the Catholic cemetery, under the direction of Furphy Brothers.
