Born Illinois 1860, Married Lewis Barington 1878 in Iowa. Lived in Nebraska and South Dakota. Mother of 4 daughters and 3 sons.

MRS. M. BARINGTON CALLED BY DEATH TUESDAY MORNING

Last Rites For An Esteemed Former Akron Woman This Afternoon

Mrs. Martha Barington, a former well known and respected reident of Akron vicinity, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 1938, at 6:15 a.m., in a hospital in Sioux City, after an extended illness, aged 78 years and 2 months.

Martha Smith was born at Rushville, Illinois, February 12, 1860. She moved with her parents to Moville, Iowa, when a child, residing there until she was a young woman of 18, when she moved to a farm near Yankton, S.D. On April 16, 1879 she was married to Louis Barington and to this union seven children were born. One son, William, died in infancy. Her husband passed away in May, 1922, and a son, Henry, and a daughter, Mrs. Jessie Rush also preceded her in death. The Barington family resided in the Pleasant Hill community, in Union county, S.D., for several years before moving to Akron. They went to Sioux City to live in 1919.

Mrs. Barington was a member of the Pleasant Hill U. B. church, and after moving to Akron transferred her membership to the Christian church. She will be remembered as a willing and loyal worker in both churches. She was also a member of the Women's Relief Corps and W.C.T.U. of Akron.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Carrie Peterson, of Twin Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Mae Hamilton and Mrs. Hazel Blake of Akron; one son, John of Siioux City, Iowa; 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Barington was a faithful and devoted wife and mother, a kind and helpful friend and neighbor and will be sincerely missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon in the Akron Christian church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.J. Zane. In- (the clipping was cut off at this point)

*Transcriber's note: The surname Barington is spelled Barrington in other documents. In her husband's obituary Martha's husband's name was spelled Lewis Barrington. In Akron Riverside Cemetery the name is spelled Barington on the headstone and his footstone has the spelling Lewis. There is no footstone for Martha.
