Sarah Ethel Areda Hamlin, 80, of Bonaparte, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1971 at 11:30 a.m. in Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua. She had been ill three weeks.
She was born Dec. 6, 1893 at Marion, a daughter of William Patrick and Sarah Pitts Berry. She spent her childhood at Waverly.
Her marriage to Roy Hamlin of Exira took place Jan. 5, 1910 at Livermore. He preceded her in death.
A resident of Bonaparte for 35 years, she was a member of the Bonaparte United Methodist church, PEO; a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star; and was a charter president of the TTT.
Surviving are four daughters; Mrs. F. J. (Areda) Long of Des Moines, Mrs. Robert (Lucille) Baron of So. Ft. Mitchell, KY., Mrs. Jack (Ruth) Christy of Bonaparte; and Mrs. Don (Barbara) Fors of Des Moines; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Gladys) Hamlin of Bonaparte; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother and a sister in addition to her husband.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. in the Bonaparte United Methodist Church. The Rev. Edward Maus officiated. Burial was in the Bonaparte cemetery. Miller-Hofbauer Funeral Home, Farmington was in charge of arrangements.
