Nehemiah was a son of Sarah May and Capt. Benjamin Lyon. His siblings were: Walter, Prudence, Azubah, Deborah, Hannah, Molly, Benjamin, Harvey, Baxter, Sarah and Chester. He married Elizabeth Bugbee on April 16, 1778. They had 10 children: Samuel K., Mehitable, Walter (who died before he was 5 months old), Baxter, Betty, Lucretia, Sally, Nehemiah May, Walter and Benjamin
His occupation, listed between 1793 - 1836, was a Blacksmith. His Nehemiah May and his son William H. both followed in his footsteps, taking up the same profession.
His religion, listed between July 12, 1797 - Oct. 30, 1819, was that of Deacon of Congregational Church in Craftsbury, VT. His residence before 1791 was in Sturbridge, MA where all but one of his children were born.

"Nehemiah lived in Sturbridge, MA for 10-12 years. He became one of the earliest settlers of North Craftsbury,
VT. He located a farm, owned by his descendants, eventually by great-grandson Royal M. Lyon (on route 20).
Nehemiah cleared five acres the first year and returned with his wife and nine children the following year. He
was a blacksmith, and followed that trade until his death. [Notes from John Fildew] According to several records
and his gravestone, he was a decon in the church in Craftsbury, and referred as Deacon Nehemiah Lyon."

"On December 19, 1803, Nehemiah Lyon proposed to the town fathers that he deed to the town a piece of land to
become the Common, or Parade. A vote was taken and the deed was sworn to before Samuel C. Crafts, Judge,
and recorded by Samuel C. Crafts, Town Clerk, on April 30, 1804. The land was "forever to remain one entire
Common (except one acre thereof which lies on the East side, which may be appropriated for public buildings as
the town may direct.)" The deed directs that "nor shall they erect any building or buildings thereon, or lease any
part thereof - forever."

"On February 1, 1814, Nehemiah and his son, Nehemiah May Lyon, signed agreements for the father to give one
half of his property to his son, 160 acreas and buildings, for about one thousand dollar,sand the father and step-
mother would be allowed to live in one half of the house, the son providing articles of provision of their choice,
including a sufficient quantity of fire wood, cust suitably, and a horse for their use. On Nov. 10, 1821 the father
signed the agreement releasing the son form any further liability in the areement. "

remarried, or had someone living with him to take care of the house, etc."
He was married a 2nd time, to Hannah Snell. They had one child, Samuel Rinsley Lyon.
