Charles William Stanton

Charles William Stanton, son of the late Maggie Powell Stanton and Judge Ben A. Stanton, was born January 2, 1897, south of Agency on the farm now owned by his son Stanley Stanton. His entire life was spent in the Agency Community, having lived within a mile of his birthplace his entire life.

He passed away Friday, Nov. 15 at the Mo. Methodist Hospital at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 13 days.

In early manhood he professed his faith in God and became a member of the Old Frame Baptist Church, later moving his membership to the Agency Christian Church. He attended McCain grade school and Faucett High School.

He was married to Miss Anna Grace Tadlock, December 5, 1923, who with five daughters and four sons survive him.

Charles had farmed extensively, having purchased his first 160 acres of land before his marriage. His truck was familiar to the entire community, for he had trucked along with farming his entire life. If we said he had a hobby, it was attending farm sales and auctions.

He was a member of the Agency Masonic Lodge and Agency I.O.O.F. and a 32nd degree mason. He was a trustee and elder of the Agency Christian Church and had been very active in the building of the new church.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Anna Grace, and Stacy McClelland (granddaughter) of the home and nine children: Mrs. Dorothy Jean Corkins, Dale Stanton, Stanley Stanton, all of Agency; W. B. Stanton, Faucett; Mrs. Donna Singleton, Agency; Mrs. Doris Johnson, St. Joseph; Mrs. Anna Lou Grisham, Gower; Mrs. Patty Spaeth, Lathrop, James Stanton, Agency. His youngest daughter, Mrs. Arlene McClelland, preceded him in death only a year ago. Also, twenty-nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Steve Grable, Faucett and one niece and one nephew.

Memorial services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. Eugene Albright at the Agency Christian Church, Monday, November 18, and his body was laid to rest in the Agency Cemetery where his grandparents, mother and father, daughter and grandchildren rest.

Casket bearers were: Albert Stanton, Ben Stanton, Leo Hughes, Lowell Nash, Eugene Grable and William Schultz.

The many friends who called, those attending services and the near 100 floral tributes attest to the esteem of friends to Charles and his family.

How suddenly death interrupts life! We feel not only grief but gratitude. We thank God for this life that we have shared. In seventy-one years he lived a rich, full life, a life filled with work and love for God, his family and his friends. The bonds that unite families and friends are not for a little while, but for eternity, they are not bound by time but given from generation to generation.
