George W. Mortimer, 84, father of Mrs. Allen Piatt, 3160 Belmont died at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Dot Edwards in Wichita. He had been in critical health for three weeks.

Mortimer was a member of the family for which the Mortimer community was named. He was born September 21, 1868 in Charleston, Illinois, and when a child moved with his parents to the Mortimer community west of Dennis. He grew to manhood and farmed in that area most of his life.

He was married to Ella Radcliff of Morehead at Parsons November 25, 1891. She died in 1921. He had made his home with the daughter in Wichita for several y ears.

Survivors include one other daughter, Mrs. May Seacat of Jefferson City, MO; a sister Mrs. Ella Newland of Cherryvale; a brother Shannon Mortimer of Rockford IL; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a number of more distant relatives.

The body will be returned to Parsons Wednesday night and will be taken to Washburn-Blossom Funeral Home where friends may call. Burial will be in Harmon Grove Cemetery.
