Having been born of goodly parents on February 11, 1916 in Provo, Utah, Eleanor Riding was tutored in the gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father and Savior on December 21, 2008 at the Mountain View Hospital in Payson, Utah.

She was greeted by her mother, Ruby Mae Clark Riding Ward and her father, Amos Riding. Others attending the reunion include her husbands, Max Bown, Howard M. Swain and Marion Bandley; her stepfather, Oliver Ward; her son, James Swain; her grandson, Andrew Joseph Johnson, her granddaughter, Suzanne Swain; her sister, Mina Riding Anthon and stepsister, Jessie Ward Kleinman; stepbrothers Jack Ward, Grant Ward, Frank Ward and Harold Ward. She was an accomplished seamstress, a devoted homemaker and found joy in gardening and playing the piano. She received fulfillment by serving others. She worked at Rodeway Inn in Salt Lake Cithy for many years; catering large banquets was one of her many assignments. She was valiant in her testimony of Jesus Christ and taught her children the principles of the gospel. She enjoyed singing in her ward choir, loved working in the Primary and spent many years of selfless service in the Salt Lake Temple. She especially loved assisting with dressing the brides.

Those not privileged to join her in her journey include her brother, Amos LeRoy Riding (Eula); stepsister Dorothy Ward Spackman (Dean); daughter Sandra Johnson (Merlin); daughter-in-law, Sally Henrie Swain; stepsons Kurt Bandley (Susie) and Bret Bandley (Rhetta); nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews and friends. She had great respect for life as a daughter of God, demonstrated by the care she gave herself and her body. Her grooming was immaculate and perfect. She was cultured, refined and always gracious. Through her example, she encouraged gratitude and humility. May we emulate her goodness throughout our lives. The family is undyingly grateful for the love, devotion and service she received while living with Jim and Sally for almost four years. She and Sally are eternally "best friends."

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Walker Family Mortuary, 85 East 300 South, Provo, Utah. Family and friends may visit from 10:00-10:45 a.m., preceding the services.
Interment: Provo City Cemetery.
