J. W. Beecher, many years a blacksmith and wagon maker at Dinsdale, died at his home at 9:20 Wednesday morning. Mr. Beecher was a victim of heart trouble, and for several months had been closely confined to his home. He was able to be at the breakfast table with the family Wednesday morning but was stricken shortly afterward. Death occurred two days after his seventy-second birthday.
John William Beecher was born at Mexico, Pennsylvania on November 24, 1852. Pennsylvania was his home many years. He was a blacksmith and wagon maker and followed that trade for nearly twenty-five years after he located in Dinsdale Iowa in 1895. He was married in his native state to Anna Rebecca Heiser in January, 1878, who survives him. Three daughters and five sons were born to the couple. The living children are: Will F. Beecher, of Traer; Ira, Cedar Rapids, formerly about of Traer; Merle E. Rock Island station agent at Dinsdale: and Homer, now at Downey, California.
The children who preceded the father in death were: Olive, six months old, who died November 9, 1900; Matilda shoe died February 5, 1901 at the age of twenty; and Charles Wesley whose death occurred November, 7, 1912 at the age of twenty-seven. Mr. Beecher had no living brothers and sisters. He was a man of integrity and character, highly respected in the Dinsdale community. The funeral will be held at 1 o'clock at the home in charge of Rev. S. E. Wright, the Dinsdale pastor. Burial will be in Amity cemetery.
