Pete Hamby, 60, Dies Here

Warren E (Pete) Hamby, 60, Route 1, Houston, whose son, SP/4 Jimmy Wayne Hamby was killed in Vietnam on May 21, died Wednesday, June 19, at 7 am, at The Houston Hospital following a three-days illness.

Funeral services were conducted from the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church at 2 pm, Thursday, June 20, with the Rev. Arlis Bryant, the Rev. Frank Childress and the Rev. C C Cornelius officiating.

Interment was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with Houston Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Hamby was born Nov. 7, 1907, in Chickasaw county where he had resided all of his life. He was a Baptist, and was the son of Russ Hamby and Dora Baker Hamby.

He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Harrell E Hill of West Point, Mrs. Joe Frank Miller of Leland, Mrs. Olen P Baker, Jr., of Jackson, Mrs. Harold Easley of Houston, and Mrs. Cecil Ferguson and Miss Brenda Hamby, both of Jackson; two sons, Bill Hamby of Decatur, Ala., and Tommy Hamby of Houston; a brother, Virgil Hamby of Brownsville, Tenn.; four sisters, Mrs. Ruby Timbs of Brownsville, Tenn., Mrs. Ethan Marshall and Mrs. Burl Massey, both of Vardaman, and Mrs. Curtis Davis of Charleston, Miss. Eleven grandchildren also survive.
