The Adolph Schroeder family, who were farmers, made their first home at Wied in Lavaca Co., TX where nine children were born to them. The family them moved to a farm in Gruenau, a little German farming community in DeWitt Co. TX not far from Yorktown. Adolph became a U.S. citizen on 20 Jan. 1922.
According to his obituary in the Yorktown News, Adolph "took a prominent part in the development of the Gruenau community, and contributed generously to many causes seeking the betterment of the community and its people." He was a member of the Gruenau Turn und Schuetzen Verein, a charter member of Turner Lodge No. 254, and was active in several farm organizations and with school and church activities.
Emma (Wunderlich) Schroeder died 19 Feb. 1934 in Yorktown, DeWitt Co., TX. Adolph died 20 July 1946 in the Gruenau Community near Yorktown. Both are buried in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Yorktown.
