Adam Travers Fridley born in Virginia, moved with his parents Jacob and Nancy Ann Hite Fridley, by 1830 to Ross County, Ohio. Moved with the family again around 1843 to Muscatine County. There is a story that Adam, along with his brothers Jacob Tharpe and Fredrick, and cousin John and several others made went by wagon train to California in the Gold Rush. The Fridley's did not strike it rich and returned by ship. Three days out of San Francisco the ship sprang a leak and they were forced to bail for 32 days. One of the cousins died and was buried at sea 3 days before the ship reached New Orleans.
Adam and Martha lived east of Blue Grass and then south on the old Johnstown road. Adam was a farmer and a coal miner. It is said Adam sunk the first coal mine in Scott County.
