Aunt Marie was the most loving person anyone could know. She was hearing and speech impaired because she had scarlet fever when she was very young. She never married and always lived with Granny Davis (Roxie Ann "Newberry" Davis) all her life. While the rest of the kids worked in the fields when she was old enough she cooked and cleaned. Her father George W Davis drowned when she was only 13 years old, she was the oldest child living at that time and the youngest child my father Ernest Davis was only 6 years old. So all the kids had to grow up fast.

I remember Aunt Marie aways baked a cake on our birthdays, and she and Granny Davis came over and stayed the night with us. It was always a big deal.

Aunt Marie made the best Strawberry Short Cake you ever ate. She was a good cook not fancy but good. And she loved growing flowers.

She is very loved and missed by all.
