Mrs. Denney was born May 6, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois to W. K. and Isabel Catching. She grew up in Hazlehurst, Mississippi and graduated from Hazlehurst High School with honors before attending Mississippi State College for Women. At MSCW she was a member of The Jesters social club and participated in various campus functions. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics and remained active in alumni functions during her life.
After working briefly as a dietician at The Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, Alabama, she wed Dr. Sam Joseph Denney of Milan, Tennessee. They raised a family of five children and had been married 53 years at the time of her death. She was always active in her church and enjoyed the fellowship of her Sunday School Class at Trinity Baptist Church in Southaven, Mississippi. Mrs. Denney participated in many community organizations, with one of her most cherished groups being the DAR in Pontotoc, Mississippi. She made friends wherever she went and was loved by all. Carol Denney was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W. K. and Isabel Catching, of Hazlehurst, Mississippi and by her sister, Virginia Catching Harris of Lake Providence, Louisiana.
Survivors include: her husband, Dr. Sam Joseph Denney of Southaven, Mississippi; son, Dr. Sam Denney Jr. and wife, George Anne, of Jackson, Mississippi; daughter, Beth Higginbotham and husband, Larry, of Memphis, Tennessee; daughter, Ann Kelly and husband, Jim, of Jackson, Mississippi; son, Dr. Bill Denney and wife, Mary, of Nashville, Tennessee; son, Dr. Bruce Denney and wife, Laura, of Southaven, Mississippi; brother, W. K. Catching Jr. and wife, Edith, of Metairie, Louisiana; and 14 grandchildren.
