Obit in The Correctionville News, 12 July 1923, page 1: Jesse Milo Conley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde H. Conley who live in the east part of town, passed away Tuesday evening, July 10, 1923. The little fellow with the other children had been playing in the yard and when Mrs. Conley stepped outside to get him to put him to sleep she noticed his mouth and lips were red, and discovered that he had been eating firecrackers. The did not seem to hurt him much at the time but in a very short while he became restless and soon began to vomit. She administered necessary medicine to rid the body of any poisons that it might have absorbed and to clean out the stomach, but the poison seemed to affect the heart more than the stomach and the medicine did not relieve the situation. Along toward evening she realized that the little fellow was in bad shape and she hurried up town with him to Dr. Smith's office, where everything possible was done to help but within ten minutes the little form was lifeless. The end came seemingly without pain as the doctor worked over him. Jesse Milo Conley was born November 16, 1921, at Ponca, Nebraska, though he has lived here with his parents for some little time. Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Methodist Church at 2 o'clock and the remains will be placed for permanent rest in the Correctionville Cemetery east of town. At the time of his son's death, Mr. Conley was working with a grading gang near Moville, but word was sent to him immediately and he hurried home only to find the little one had passed away.
