Burwell Clarence "Burell/BC" Boyles was born on Apr. 6, 1894 in New London, Stanly Co., North Carolina. He was the son of Augustus Clingman "A.C." Boyles (1867-1936) and Anna Elizabeth "Annie" Coggin (1864-1914), the 2nd of their 4 known children: Henry Paul Boyles (1891-1819), Burwell Clarence "Burell" Boyles (1894-1989), William Marcus Boyles (1897-1935) & Augustus Clingman Boyles "Gus" (1900-1965). Burell's parents (AC & Annie) are buried in the Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, Durham Co., NC.

Burell's father ("AC" Boyles)was a medical doctor, the son of Methodist Episcopal (M.E.) circuit preacher Marcus Wrightman "M. W." Boyles (1842-1892) and Susan A. (Alice ?) Wood (1846-1895). AC's paternal grandfather, Josiah A. "Joseph" Boyles (1816-1894) and great-grandfather, John Boyles II (1770-1843), were also "old-time" Methodist preachers, as well as farmers.

Burell's mother, Anna Elizabeth "Annie" Coggin, was the daughter of Burwell Titus "Burrel" Coggin Jr. (1814-1885) and Cirona Harris (1836-1873). Her parents were born in Montgomery Co., NC, lived and died there. They are buried there in the Coggin Family Cemetery.

In 1916, Burell left college (North Carolina State) to join the US Navy. In 1920, he married Sallie Ruth Cobb (1894-1985). She was the daughter of William Rankin "Willie" Cobb (1868-1917) and Lula Ella Wright (1869-1955). Sallie's parents were born in Guilford Co., NC, where they lived and died. They are buried in Friedens Lutheran Cemetery in GIbsonville, Guilford Co. , NC.

Burell and Salie were married for 65 years and had three known children. They were Ruth Cobb Boyles (1921-2004), Burell Clarence "Pete" Boyles Jr. (1922-2003) and Paul Weldon Boyles (1925-2018).

Sallie died on May 4, 1985 in Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC at the age of 91. She is buried in Alamance Memorial Park located in Burlington, Alamance Co., NC.

Burell died on Mar. 24, 1989 in Alamance Co., NC at the age of 94. He too, is buried in Alamance Memorial Park, next to his wife, Sallie. Their daughter, Ruth (Boyles) Walker, and their son, Pete Boyles, are also buried in this cemetery, along with their spouses.
