He was the son of Corbit Ray and Ruby Mae (Garrett) Charlton. He was raised in the Minco and Cogar communities and married Nellie Louise Jones on Aug. 30, 1950 in Clovis, N. M. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and worked as a welding and pipe inspector for a natural gas company. He retired in 1981 after 32 years. He lived in Joliet, Illinois for many years and moved back after his retirement in 1981. After his retirement, he worked for himself as a welder, farm hand and heavy equipment operator. He was preceded in death by his parents Corbin and Ruby Charlton, wife Nellie on Nov. 3, 2007, and a brother-in-law Enis Anthony. Services were held on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Union City. Rev. Eric Stock of the First Baptist Church in Union City officiated, with burial in the Hazel Dell Cemetery northwest of Minco under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home of Minco.
