from Benton Courier on-line obituary: Orvist Mason Curtis, 96, of Benton died Sunday, February 4, 2007, in Saline Memorial Hospital. He was born April 17, 1910, in the Nebo community in the west end of Saline County to Samuel Henry and Sarah Edna Curtis. Mr. Curtis was a retired barber, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Highway Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a stepmother, Ella Curtis; his parents; four siblings, Homer Curtis, Vivian Jones, Alene Moss and Charles V. "Dick" Curtis; and his only two children, Samuel Mason Curtis and Mickey Lynn Curtis, who as teens were tragically killed in an automobile accident. Survivors include his wife of more than 65 years, Eddie Curtis; three siblings, Pauline Whitby of Hot Springs, Billy A. "Bill" Curtis, of Hot Springs, and Panama City, Florida, and Jimmy D. Curtis of Benton; and a host of nephews, nieces and other family. Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ashby Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bolen Cemetery at Paron. Pallbearers will be Christopher Curtis, Blake Poole, Craig Curtis, Mason Hargett, Blake Edwards, Lance Curtis, Kelly Curtis and Marty Moss. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Moss, Steve Moss, Mickey Moss, Gary Poole, Larry Edwards, James Bennett, Grant Bennett and Derek Johnston. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Highway Church of Christ, Benton, AR, 72015.
