Funeral Services For Archie J. Ames Held Wednesday, Feb. 6
Relatives and friends from Byron and surrounding communities gathered Wednesday, Feb. 6, to pay final tribute to Archie J. Ames.
The Byron L.D.S. chapel, made beautiful by the abundance of flowers, was filled to capacity, and full military honors were accorded by the Robert Boyd Stewart Post No. 11 of the American Legion, of which he was a member, having served with the 148th field artillery in World War I.
A prelude of organ music ws played by Naomi Briggs, and services were conducted by Bishop Dean Larson. Invocation was given by Hyrum Blackburn Sr.; a trio, Thora Watson, Delilah Brown and Carma Johnson, sang "Beside Still Waters," accompanied by Naomi Briggs.
The obituary was given by Walter G. Stevens, a brother-in-law. Naomi Briggs and Norma Hessenthaler sang "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. Walter Stevens; speakers were Clifford Powelson and Frank H. Brown. a vocal solo, "Lay My Head Beneath a Rose," was rendered by Leola Allen, accompanied by Mrs. Briggs; the ladies trio sang "Peace I Leave With Thee," after which David F. Jons ofered the benediction. Recessional music, "Abide With Me," was sung by the ladies' trio.
Pallbearers were Larry Armstrong Sr., Frank Sonners, Vince Tanner, Foard Gerand, Edwin J. Neville and Ed Havig. Honorary pallbearers were employees of the Ohio Oil Co. and close friends. Ushers were Clair Deaton, Keith Neville and Oren Jones.
Interment was in the Byron cememtery, with the dedication of the grave by George Abraham, a brother-in-law. Haskell Funeral Home was in charge of the burial.

Archie Johnson Ames was born Jan. 25, 1898, in Cottonwood, Ida., the son of Samuel J. and Sarah Ann Boice Ames.
He married Marie A. Abraham Aug. 18, 1919, in Basin.
For many years he had been employed by the Ohio Oil Co. as field foreman, retiring one month ago.
He was a member of the L.D.S. church and a member of the American Legion. He served with the 148th Field Artillery in World War I from August, 1917 to February, 1918.
Mr. Ames passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Lovell hospital of a heart ailment.
He is survived by his wife; two children, Mrs. Reva Staples of Burlington Junction, Mo., and Archie Ames Jr. of Byron; five sisters, Mrs. O.W. Hatch, Mrs. Ace Coleman and Mrs. Jan Whiting of Pocatello, Ida., Mrs. E.A. Palmer of Ogden, Utah., and Mrs. E.A. Wolverton of Lance Creek, and six grandchildren.
