Many sources have said David Sloan, Jr's middle name was "McCurdy", including my family, but I've not been able to find any documents with his middle name, therefore I've not been able to prove that is his middle name. Also, his tombstone has the title "Captain" but I've never been able to document his military history and since his father was always referred to as "Captain Sloan" that causes confusion.
In 1805, David Jr, married Nancy Trimmier, (from North American Family Histories). He and his wife raised 9 children and lived in Pendleton, SC, according to 1790, 1810, 1820 & 1830 census reports. His children were William, Sallie, Benjamin, John Trimmier, Emily, Mary, Susan, Lucy & Thomas Sloan.
David Jr died most probably in Pendleton at the age of 47 and his wife, Nancy, continued to live in Pendleton till her death in 1854. David's mother, Susannah Majors Sloan, outlived him and in her obituary (reprinted in Keowee Courier, 7/26/1911) there is mention of his death and a history of the family. David Jr and Nancy were originally buried at the Sloan Plantation Cemetery but were re-interred at Pendleton Cemetery when the home place was flooded by Lake Hartwell.
According to his father's will, dated 1821, David Jr was bequeathed 950 acres on north side of Cane Creek, where David Jr lived. Jointly, he and brother-in-law, Jesse Stribling, were bequeathed an additional 450 acres on Cane & Richland Creeks.
