Laura's father was the son of famous Revolutionary War Col. Nathan Denison of Luzerne County, Penn. (Battle of Wyoming Valley, Penn.) and his wife Elizabeth Sill. Their home in Forty Fort, Luzerne Co., Penn. is now a museum called the Nathan Denison House, and the Denison Homestead in Mystic, Conn. is also a museum.
Laura was descended from two Mayflower passengers: John Howland (through Nathan Denison) and Elder William Brewster (through Elizabeth Sill).
