Laura (Denison) Niman was born 1 Jan 1833 in the vicinity ot Etna, Licking County, Ohio. She was the daughter of John Denison and second wife Mary Watkins, who was probably a first generation American of Welsh descent. They were married 9 Jun 1824 in Licking County, Ohio.
Laura's father was the son of famous Revolutionary War Col. Nathan Denison of Luzerne County, Penn. (Battle of Wyoming Valley, Penn.) and his wife Elizabeth Sill. Their home in Forty Fort, Luzerne Co., Penn. is now a museum called the Nathan Denison House, and the Denison Homestead in Mystic, Conn. is also a museum.
Laura was descended from two Mayflower passengers: John Howland (through Nathan Denison) and Elder William Brewster (through Elizabeth Sill).
