"The LaFayette Sun" - February 26, 1930:

Schuessler Honored on Eighty Third Birthday.

L. S. Schuessler, president of the Bank of LaFayette, and a much beloved citizen of this city, was honored at the Methodist church of this place, the occasion being the eighty-third birthday of the prominent LaFayette citizen and member of that church.
At an interval between the song service and the sermon by Rev. J. F. Sturdivant, permission was requested by the pastor by Will O. Walton, local attorney, to say something concerning a member of the Methodist church whose eighty-third birthday was today. Mr. Walton recounted the life of Mr. Schuessler in a brief way, pointing out what he had meant to LaFayette and county and his lifelong influence for the church and for those things which were moral and right. "I heard of you long before I came to LaFayette, Brother Schuessler, and since I have known you these past several years I have learned why I have never heard aught against your name," was one expression made by Mr. Walton in his short, but touching remarks.
At the close of the short talk Mr. Schuessler was called before the altar and while the choir and congregation sang, "The Crowning Day Is Coming," every person in the congregation expressed "a happy birthday greeting" to Mr. Schuessler.
Mr. Schuessler was 83 years of age last Sunday, but those not familiar with this fact would never think he had reached that many years. He is very active for a man of that age and is regularly seen about the streets of his home city.
