Lyman Goff Dies In Jackson

Lyman Henry Goff died at his home in Jackson, Miss., at 2:30 a.m. February 14, 1941. At time of his death he was 45 years of age being born October 1, 1894.
His death being caused from accute Heart attack. He had been ailing for some time, but had visited his office on the day prior to his death, and seemed to feel improved when he retired the night before his death. At 2:00 o'clock in the morning he asked his wife to call a physician, which she did, and also another but their treatment was of no effect, and he died immediately.

He was the son of W.H. Goff (Uncle Henry) and Mrs. Mary Jane Howell Goff, he was born in Central school community, October 1, 1894, where he completed his high school education. We worked for a while, after which he attended Miss. State Normal College, Hattiesburg, Miss.

He was first employed by the Gulf Refining Co., at Moss Point, Miss., as Clerk in the office, was later placed in charge of the office there, then transferred to Greenwood, Miss., in charge of the office there, afterward promoted to District Sales Manager for the Southern District of Tenn. And afterwards promoted to States Sales Manager for the State of Mississippi with offices in the Lamar Life Building, Jackson, Miss., where he purchased a home and was apparently permanently located.

He was a member of the Baptist church of Jackson, a member of the Jackson Kiwanans Club and was a Mason and a Shriner.

He was happily married December 23, 1916 to Miss Maud Newbill and to this union was born two sons, L.H. Jr., who is now married and employed at Camp West Overfield at Chicopee Yales, Mass., and Glennie Who is still in High School at Jackson.

Funeral services were held at Wright & Ferguson Funeral home in Jackson Sunday, with Dr. W.A. Heewitt, pastor of the First Baptist church conducting the last rites. His body was brought back to Lucedale and interment made in Magnolia cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, and two sons, L.H. Jr., and Glennie, two sisters, Mrs. George Howell of Lucedale, and Mrs. Will Holland, of Wade, four brothers: W.R., Jas. R., Chas. E. and Albert H. Goff; his father, W.H. Goff, Sr., (Uncle Henry) and many other relatives.

Pallbearers were: J.A. Walne, J.W. Davis, Jeff Miller, W.E. Taylor, Jr., J.W. Young, C.M. Coburn, O.B. Castleberry, J.S. Mellen.
