Ray Arvil Sutterfield, 88, of Krebs, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at McAlester Regional Health Center. Memorial graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. William Nixon officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester. Born March 28, 1920, in Leslie, Ark., he was the son of James Christopher and Eva Marie (Horn) Sutterfield. At an early age, he moved with his family to Morris, where he attended high school. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force. He married Opal Davis on Nov. 29, 1942, in San Angelo, Texas, and together they spent the remainder of his career in the Air Force before retiring Dec. 31, 1960, at Amarillo Air Force Base in Texas at the rank of Tech. Sgt. From there they moved to Denison, Texas, where he managed a gas station. In 1972 they moved to Abilene, Texas, where he worked for the City of Abilene. They moved to Quinton in 1988, then to McAlester, where they lived the remainder of their lives. He was of the Baptist Faith and was an avid reader. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eva Sutterfield; his wife, Opal; one brother; two sons and one son-in-law.
