Although he went by Richard H., he was born Homer Richard Smith in Albany Missouri. His parents were Moses Ambrose Smith and Kitora Esther (Baldock) Smith both of Albany. He married Edith Helen McKinley on 19 October 1922 in Papillion Nebraska. They had only one child - Helen Marie (Smith) Rolfe who was born while they lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Richard and Edith were divorced on 9 January, 1930 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The photo showing here is Richard and Edith (also spelled Edythe).
He is believed to have had a second marriage to a lady named Trixie; her last name is not presently known. They were married for a very short time, probably in Nebraska.
He later married Gertrude "Trudy" (Ammons) Snook. They had no children together; however, Trudy had two living daughters (Kathleen and Phyllis) by a previous marriage. Dick and Trudy lived in Encampment, Wyoming at the time of his death. He owned and operated a restaurant in nearby Riverside along the banks of the North Platte River; and, he had previously owned and operated a restaurant in Grand Island, Nebraska. He died in a Laramie hospital following a heart attack while changing a tire on his car. Although Trudy's name appears on the Smith family headstone, she was not buried at this location.
