Absalom Delay was born June 2, 1833 in Danville, Vermillion county, Illinois and died at his residence in Beaver Creek Precinct, Bond county, Illinois October 28, 1888. Mr. Delay married March 5, 1854, Margaret A. Ward and nine children were born to this union, five of whom preceded the father to the land of rest. Mr. & Mrs. Delay moved to Wisconsin in 1855 and returned to Clinton county, Illinois in 1859. He spent one year in Colorado during the Pikes Peak excitement. He served during the war in the Union Army, having enlisted in Co. I. 36th reg't., seving more than four years, during which time his family remainded in Keysport, Illinois. burial was at McKendree Chapel.
