William Bose was a United States soldier during the American Civil War of 1861 to 1865.
He Enlisted on August 25th, 1863, at New York City, New York, for three years service at the age of 26 and was mustered into service as a Private in Company D of the 9th New York Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment on August 29th, 1863. The 9th Veteran Regiment was merged with several other veteran regiments that were organizing in New York City at the time, and the company was assigned as Company H of the 17th New York Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment on October 14th, 1863.
He served with the regiment in its campaigns into Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama. His final campaign was when the regiment was sent to join the army of Major General William T. Sherman outside of Atlanta, Georgia. He was wounded in action on September 1st, 1864, at the Battle of Jonesboro, Georgia, and was transported to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. He remained there until he died of his wounds on December 6th, 1864, at the Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
