He died on 7/7/1862 at Corinth, MS.

The 66th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment ( Western Sharpshooters ) , originally known as Birge's Western \Sharpshooters and later as the " Western Sharpshooters - 14th Missouri Volunteers ", was a specialized regiment of infantry sharpshooters that served in the Union Army during the Civil War. it was a regiment composed of volunteer candidates sent by recruiting officers, that represented every state in the Western United States.

They were heavily involved in the siege of Corinth, Mississippi during May of 1862.
