Jonathan Richmond Danforth was born ca 1809 in Covington or Essex County, NY to David Danforth and Paulina (Richmond) Danforth (descended from Thomas Rogers, a Mayflower Pilgrim). Jonathan R Danforth married Phoebe Wright ca 1831 probably in Fort Covington, NY. The children of Jonathan R. Danforth and Phoebe Wright are: (1) Norman A. born 16 May 1831 in NY; (2) Juliet M. born 20 Oct 1833 in NY; (3) Ira born ca 1837 in NY. In 1840 Jonathan lived with his family in Rochester, Monroe, NY, and by 1850 lived in Cheektowaga, Erie, NY (near Buffalo, NY) working as a Lumberman. In the mid-1850s the family moved to Amherst, Portage, Wisconsin where his wife Phoebe died in 1857. Jonathan was a farmer in Wisconsin. On 10 December 1861, when Jonathan was 52 years old (even though Civil War papers show 42 years), the widower volunteered to serve in the Union army. Jonathan was a Private in Company K of the Wisconsin 18th Regiment of Infantry. While serving in the Civil War, Jonathan died 14 November 1862 near Grand Junction, Hardeman, Tennessee from disease. Originally buried in Grand Junction, he was later removed to Corinth National Cemetery after it was established.

Children:
