PNEUMONIA TAKES WESLEY KIRKLAND
WIDELY KNOWN RAILWAY CLERK ACTIVE IN CHURCH, FRATERNAL LIFE OF ADOPTED CITY
Death came Sunday night for Wesley P Kirkland, popular and well beloved railway mail clerk who died at his home, 309 S. East St. at 8:30 o'clock following a week's illness of pneumonia. He was 51 and for 29 years was a mail clerk, spending most of his service on Atlantic Coast Line Railroad trains.
Born and reared in Henry County, Mr. Kirkland resided for two years at Tuscaloosa and married Miss Annie Alma Holland, daughter of the late J.R. Holland of Dothan, moving to Dothan in 1909. During his long residence here, he became closely identified with the church life of the city and was a member of Lafayette St. Methodist Church, and he was also active in fraternal life.
Besides his widow, Mrs. Annie Alma Kirkland of Dothan, surviving are two sons, Julian and Hugh Kirkland of Dothan; a daughter Mrs. D.L. Trent of Dothan; his mother, Mrs. D.A. McAlister of Cottonwood; five brothers, H.G. of Columbus, Ga; C.G. of Leesburg, Fla; E.P. of Jacksonville, Fla; F.E. Kirkland of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla; and D.T. Kirkland of Miami, Fla.; also three sisters, Mrs. W.R. Buntin of Ashford, Mrs. J.F. Beatty and Mrs. G.C. Hurley of Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral services will be held from the residence at 309 S. East St. at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning, with the Rev. C.T. Talley, pastor of the Lafayette St. Methodist church officiating, assisted by the Rev. D.W. Haskew, a former pastor of Lafayette St. of Andalusia. Burial to follow in the city cemetery.
The following fellows of the Railway Mail Clerks will be active pallbearers: J.T. Stovall, J.P. Peacock, A.J. Harris, R.E. Borland, A.L. Pate, E.F. Dodson.
