Born near Wayside, Kansas, Son of James C. and Mabel Bell. In 1923 his family moved to Red Oak, Iowa where he graduated from High School in 1928 and later studied agriculture in junior College.
James married Marie Brodd of Hawthorne, Iowa in 1930. She preceeded him in death in 1990. The family returned to Kansas in 1937 and in 1940 moved to San Diego, Ca. where Jay worked in the Aircraft Industry. They returned to Kansas in 1941 and Jay worked for Beech Aircraft in Wichita. In 1942 Jay became employed with the U S Army Air Corps in Dallas, Texas for the remainder of WW11. The family then returned to Wayside where he farmed until 2005 when deteriorating health necessitated his move to Bartlesville, OK to be near his daughter Marilyn. James was the Father of Marilyn Sachen, Lois Vorderbruegge and James.
