Sarah E Hoover is the daughter of William Court Hoover and Martha Kersey. She was born October 15, 1840 at Fall Creek Township, Hamilton County, Indiana. The Post office was Fortsville. Fortsville is no longer there, having been abandoned over the years. Her father ran a saw mill there until the death of her mother in 1863. Sarah's father remarried Sarah Jane (Jack) Cole on August 6, 1864 in Tipton County, Indiana. Sarah married her sweetheart William H Brothers earlier that year on April 25, 1864 at Marion County, Indiana. When her father and his second wife moved to Howard County, Indiana, Sarah and her husband moved onto the family homestead.

In 1895 she left home and moved in with her parents for a time as her father was very ill. He died in 1897 in Havelock, Pocahontas, Iowa. She returned home to her husband after her father's death. In advanced age, they sold the family homestead and moved to Wabash County, Indiana where She and William lived out the rest of their lives.
