Tom was the son of Samuel Lorenzo Dow and Annie Wood Painter and his parents and older siblings were all born in West Virginia except sister, Betty. A younger brother Ted was also born in Tennessee. His other siblings were Homer, Ellet, Lew Price, Doris, Hunter, Andy, Johnny and Ralph.
