Notes for ROBERT PORTER NORMAN: After Joseph Norman's death in 1809, son Robert took his mom, Nellie and headed westward over the mountains into Tennessee. They probably followed the immigration roads which had formed over the old Indian trails. By 1812, Robert was paying taxes in Bedford County (later Marshall County), Tennessee. Robert and his brother Joseph Layfayette, Jr. were in the War of 1812. Robert joined the southern forces and was part of the Battle of New Orleans. Robert, on October 12, 1814, joined Captain Andrew Patterson's Division under Col. William Metcaffe of the Tennessee Militia, First Regiment, Infantry. Robert marched to New Orleans with "Old Hickory" Andrew Jackson to win the Battle. He was discharged on July 12, 1815 in Nashville, TN. After Robert married Patsy they lived on "Big Flat Creek" in Marshall County, TN. Their neighbors were also relatives, including the Nobletts, Coffeys, Leepers, McNatts and Grammars. On December 25, 1850, Robert sold 100 acres on the headwaters of Rock Creek in Marshall County. He sold the property for $1,000.00. Edward Harris Strong 1831 - 1883 Edward Harris Strong 1831 - 1883 Robert, then 74 years old, applied for his pension or land bounty. He received two 80 acre land grants, in Marshall County and in Perry County. Patsy died February 7, 1852 and Robert died October 10, 1855 in Perry County, TN.
