Friend of Hoover Mrs Nutter dies
Funeral services will be held Wednesday for Gertrude A Nutter 95 of 13667 Saratoga Vista Ave a former music teacher and long-time friend of former President Herbert Hoover. Mrs Nutter died Sunday in a local convalescent hospital after a long illness. Rites will start at 11 am at West Valley Chapel 300 W Main St and private burial will be in Madronia Cemetery Saratoga She was born on Feb. 17 1877 in San Francisco and was graduated from the old College of Pacific in San Jose (now UOP of Stockton) and taught music and served as an accompanist in San Jose and Santa Clara at the turn of the century. Her husband Edward Nutter was a classmate of Theodore Hoover brother of Herbert Hoover at Stanford University. When the Nutters moved to Bodie in 1906 Mrs Nutter bore her first child Edward in the home of Herbert Hoover. Nutter a nationally prominent mining engineer and metallurgist died in 1960. The Nutters lived in Berkeley before moving to Saratoga in 1950. She was a former member of the 20th Century Club of Berkeley. Survivors are two sons Edward A Nutter of Pebble Beach and Sheldon H Nutter of San Jose, a daughter Katherine N Tynes of Walnut Creek four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren
