ROBERT R. ALLEN OF KING CITY IS DEAD

KING CITY, May 12—Death came with surprising suddenness last night to Robert R. Allen, well known business man of this place and former resident of Salinas and Soledad. Returning home from the King City high school, where he had been participating in a volleyball contest, he was seated and engaged in quiet conversation with his adopted daughter, Marsha Landers, when he was suddenly stricken expiring before medical aid could reach him. A heart attack was the supposed cause.

The deceased was a native of Watsonville. aged about 50 years. He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Westlake, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Westlake, Salinas pioneers, and by his adopted daughter, Miss Landers. He also leaves a brother, who lives in San Francisco.

Allen had been active in the, business and civic affairs of this community for a long number of years and was popular and well-liked by everyone. Besides being one of the H. A. F. Company., a leading mercantile concern, he was president; of the board of trustees of the King City high school, one of the founders of the King City Fair associa­tion, and president of the recently organized Monterey County Public Camp Site association.

Fraternally he was prominent in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elk’s, being a member of Salinas lodge, No. 614, and the first secretary of that lodge.

Services Held for Late King City Man

KING CITY, May 13. —Funeral services were held here this after­noon in the Episcopal church for the late Robert R. Allen, business man, who died suddenly last Monday evening In addition to many friends from King City and vicinity, many were present from Salinas, including representatives of the Masonic and Elks fraternities, of which the deceased was a member. The floral tributes were abundant. Following the services the remains were sent to San Francisco for cremation.
