Andrew Jackson Ficklin, Sr. was the son of Joseph Rush Ficklin (1807-1870) and his first wife, Matilda Wycliff (1807-XXXX)He was born in Livingston Parish, Louisiana at Grey's Creek, near Ficklin Lake. A.J. married three times, first to Martha Sides (1838-1858) mother of his son John "Doc" Ficklin. Martha's sister Mary married A.J.'s brother George Washington Ficklin. When Martha died, John was taken in by Mary and George. A.J. married Elizabeth Story (XXXX-7/1862)in March of 1862. He served in the Confederate Army at Port Hudson, Louisiana where Elizabeth died. A.J. married his third wife, Mary Louisiana Hodgeson (1845-1914)in 1866. There were 10 children born; William Joseph, Martha Ann, Emma Dora, Sarah Jane, Andrew Jackson Jr., Wiley Christopher, Ada Ophelia, Francis Matilda, Lula Erata and George Franklin. At some point (1880s?)A.J. moved his family across the Amite River from Livingston Parish to Galvez, LA in Ascension Parish. Ficklin Family Cemetery was established in 1894 by A.J. Ficklin. The earliest known grave is dated 1898, an infant granddaughter of A.J. Ficklin. A.J. and Mary Louisiana died with one week of each other after 52 years of marrage.
