Chico Enterprise-Record, Saturday, July 20, 1957: "Florence Cole. Mrs. Florence Bertha Cole, wife of Harlan Cole of Durham died at the Butte County Hospital in Oroville on Friday. Mrs. Cole was born in Indiana on July 17, 1873, and had just observed her 84th birthday two days before her death. For the past 50 years, Mr. and Mrs. Cole had made their home in Durham, where Mr. Cole did ranch work. In addition to her husband survivors include five children, Mrs. Florence Dawson of Athens, Wis.; Mrs. Sarah Kirkpatrick of Sacramento; W.M. Page of Colusa; Carl E. Cole of San Francisco, and James N. Cole of Durham; 23 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Minnie Colm, of Durham, is a cousin. Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel of the Brusie Funeral Home Monday at 3:00 p.m. and interment will take place in the Dayton Cemetery."

Chico Enterprise-Record, Monday, July 22, 1957: "Florence B. Cole. Rev. Howard Cook, of Durham, officiated at funeral services conducted in the chapel of the Brusie Funeral Home this afternoon for Mrs. Florence Bertha Cole, of Durham, who died Wednesday. During the service, Fred Franklin was accompanied by Mrs. Francis Stephens as he sang a group of sacred selections. Interment was in the Dayton Cemetery, and casketbearers were Charles A. Schab, Harold Evans, Wes and Les Cole, William McAnarlin and Frank Evans."

An interesting point regarding Florence Burdick Cole – she is buried in the Dayton Cemetery, Butte County, CA, and shares a marker with her brother William Burdick. In her obituary Minnie [Burdick] Colm is listed as a cousin. This would make Florence's father a brother of Cyrenus Burdick, who plays a prominent part in the history of the Dayton / Durham districts of Butte.
