At age 18 he emigrated alone to America and came to Burleson County, Texas where he engaged in the stock & agricultural pursuits there for 5 years in Dime Box. In 1877 he embarked in mercantile pursuits in Giddings until his death. He also engaged in raising livestock and farming and owned a steam brick yard and a livery stable etc. He built a brick building in Giddings on Main Street that is still standing.
He married Martha E. McClanahan on Dec 19, 1876. After his death, Martha lived with the Seab McClanahan in Lexington, Texas.
