Thomas Shepard Stringer, 97, of Beaufort, died Thursday, May 18, 2006, in his home.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home in Claxton, Ga. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home's chapel, with burial in the Old Anderson Church cemetery in Collins, Ga.

Mr. Stringer was born Sept. 2, 1908, a son of Thomas Henry Stringer and Hattie Mozel Williams.

He farmed in Manassas, Ga., from 1943 to 1955 and later moved to Savannah to work for Neal Blun Building Supply until his retirement. He lived in Beaufort for the last 21 years with his daughter, Margaret.

He is survived by two daughters, Zarmi DeLoach of Dublin, Ga., and Margaret Salinas of Beaufort; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Minnie Rose Knight Stringer; and two sons, Trelles Stringer and Jessie Stringer.
