Cherokee Sentinel, Feb. 7, 1930, page 1:

Steve Atkinson Dead
Steve Atkinson, aged 49 years, 2 months and 23 days, died at the home of his sister in the south part of town on Tuesday, after an extended illness. He had been in bad health for many months and it was known that he could not live long for sometime back.

Steve was born in Leavenworth, but moved to Cherokee when very young and has lived here all his life. He worked as a railroad man on the Frisco for more than 20 years and was considered a very fine brakeman. He was employed with this company until his health became such that he could no longer work. He leaves a brother, Tom, and two sisters, Miss May Atkinson and Mrs. Polly Lamb.

Funeral services were held at the home on yesterday afternoon by Rev. H.J. Sterling and burial made in the Cherokee cemetery. Contributed by Cheryl White
