Orbie E. Brittain, 93, of 4952 Adams Rd, Blakesburg passed away Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at home.

He was born February 4, 1915 in Mediapolis, Kan. to Alfred and Bertha Bain Brittain.He married Inez E. Small May 22, 1937 in Lancaster, Mo. She preceded him in death on October 11, 2008.

He was a community leader in Blakesburg. He served on the Blakesburg and Eddyville-Blakesburg School Board for 41 years. He was a member of Blakesburg Christian Church, Blakesburg Lions, IOOF and on the Ottumwa FSA Committee.He worked with his wife and sons on the family farm.

Survivors include three sons, Ronald (Jenny), Boyd (Karen) and Alan (Kathleen) all of Blakesburg; one daughter, Sharon (Dennis) Olney of Ankeny; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren, nine great-stepgrandchildren; three great-great-stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Eldon of Marshalltown and Doyle of Indianola and one sister, Vera Eakins of Indianola.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Verle and one sister, Ruby.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Knedler Funeral Home with Ray Lyon and Richard Kirkman officiating.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
