Mabel M. Syverson, 90, of Bagley, died Monday, December 24, 2001, at Greensview Health Care Center, Bagley.
Mabel was born on September 3, 1911, at Rolfe, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Philp) Harmon. Mabel was the 11th of 14 children. When Mabel was three, her family moved to a farm south of Shevlin. She attended school at District No. 35, south of Shevlin, then Bagley High School and Normal training in Bagley.
On July 2, 1932, Mabel married her childhood friend and sweetheart Joe Syverson, and together they raised nine children. Mabel completed her education at Bemidji State College and while raising her family, she taught school at Ebro Corners, Minerva, Shevlin and was principal at Gully. In 1962 she and Joe moved to Tukwila, Washington, where she taught developmentally disabled children until her retirement in 1974. Upon retirement, she and Joe returned to the Bagley area.
She was a member of Grace Free Lutheran Church, Bagley for many years.
Survivors include her six daughters, Mildred (Charles) Linneman of Shevlin, Ethel Huson, of Maple Valley, Washington, Lois (Jim) Garrison, of Shevlin, Evelyn (Hank) Hanson, of Auburn, Washington, Marilyn (John) Renner, of Shevlin, Cheryl (Rod) Ronning, of Shevlin; three sons, Arlen (Eileen) Syverson, of Bagley, Roy (Donna) Syverson, of Kendrick, Idaho, Roger (Susan) Syverson, of Kendrick, Idaho, 30 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 1989; all of her siblings; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, December 31, at Grace Free Lutheran Church, with Pastor Lyle Twite officiating.
Interment was at Landstad Lutheran Cemetery, Shevlin. The Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley , assisted the family with arrangements.
