Calvin was the son of Mary Carver and Gamaliel Bates. Calvin had 14 siblings: Lydia, Gamaliel, Mary P., Hannah, James, John Blaney, Rebecca, Deborah (who died at 6 months old), Deborah (and my ancestor), Reuben, Betsey, Rufus, Ezekiel and Abigail (who died at 1 month and 19 days).

Calvin went on to marry Elizabeth Stetson on August 12, 1801. They had 10 children: Eliza, Olive, Mary C., Lucinda, Calvin, Merrill Carver, Elmira, Angeline, Lydia and Ruth.

Calvin lived on Winter Street in Hanover, MA,"... was a man of enterprise, part owner of the Forge on King Street and for many years was engaged in the iron business in Hanover."
