John Stevens Bryan was the son of William Bryan and Elizabeth Gray. He married Lucy Davis Haywood on February 22, 1829 in Wake County, NC. They were the parents of eight known children: Janet, William Sherwood, Alice, John Stevens, James Louis, Lucy Haywood, Eleanor Hawkins and Elizabeth Gray Bryan.
