Jacqueline (Jackie) Slack, well known Big Horn resident, passed away, November 3, 1997 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Jackie was born May 24, 1923 in Lyman, Wyoming, the daughter of Laura Hamblin Eyre & Lelan Eyre. She attended school in Lyman, graduating in 1941. She was very active in 4-H and school activities.
She married Victor Slack, February 15, 1942. They had four children, Marry Carroll of Omaha, Nebraska, Bob of Park City, Utah and Bill and John of Big Horn.
Jackie was active in the Big Horn community and numerous organizations. She served as leader of the Big Horn Livestock and Button and Batter 4-H clubs, chairman of the Rehabilitation Enterprises of Northeast Wyoming (RENEW), and many offices in the Big Horn Woman's Club. She was a member of the Sheridan County Cattlewomen's, the Big Horn City Historical Society, Flying Farmers and the Wagon Box Good Sams . She also served as President of the Wyoming Federation of Women's Clubs and served on the Board of Directors of the National Federation of Women's Clubs.
She was a gifted writer. She most recently enjoyed communicating with her family by using computer e-mail. She loved cooking. Her family, friends and Big Horn Lion's Club will never forget her homemade bread, apple butter, chocolate pies, Christmas pudding and roast beef dinners. She always said she was put on this earth to feed people….that she did.
She is survived by her husband and children, two brothers, Darrel and John Eyre of Lyman and eight grandchildren, Sunshine Miller of Pennsylvania, Jenny Barbula of Denver, Justin and Bonnie Carroll of Alaska, Richard and Alice Carroll of Omaha and Camille and Kimberly Slack of Sheridan. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Donna Rae.
Visitation will be Thursday evening at Ferries Funeral Home from 7:00-8:30. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 7th, at 1:30 p.m. at the LDS Church. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Big Horn.
