Robert L. Pieper, 71, of rural Hanska died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Firle Funeral Home, Hanska, and one hour prior to services at the church Thursday.
He is survived by his wife, Laura of Hanska; sons, Scott Pieper, Bryce Pieper, Britt Pieper and wife, Jeri; grandson, Chance Pieper, all of Hanska; sisters, Gwen Wolford of Estacada, Ore., Rosamond Groth of Two Harbors; sister-in-law, Lois Lenz and husband, Dale, of Fairmont; brother-in-law, Harlan Asche of Miss.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur, Rollie and Fred; sisters, Gertrude and Geraldine.
He was born June 2, 1929, in Fairmont, to Louis and Maybelle (Conlin) Pieper. He grew up in Martin County and attended Trimont area schools. He moved with his family to Oregon when he was a teen. He entered the U.S. Army in 1951, serving in Korea, receiving his honorable discharge in 1952. He married Laura Asche on May 26, 1956, in St. Peter. They lived in Estherville, Iowa, where he worked as a police officer. In 1957, the family moved to Madelia, where he served as police chief. He also worked for Meyer & Sons in Mankato for 30 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Lake Hanska Lutheran Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans.
