Katherine Gallagher Strohmeyer Smyklo, 67, of 1318 E. Gore Road, died Wednesday at Saint Vincent Health Center. She was born in Erie on Sept. 16, 1920, a daughter of the late Eugene and Myrtle Dayton Gallagher. She was a founding member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, a charter member of the Ladies Guild of the church, and a past member of the Belle Valley Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence L. Strohmeyer. Survivors include her husband, Henry Smyklo; five sons, Lt. Col. Michael Strohmeyer of Gaithersburg, Maryland; Eugene Strohmeyer; Paul Strohmeyer, and Robert Strohmeyer, all of Erie; and Dr. Richard Strohmeyer of Palmer, Alaska; a stepdaughter, Mrs. R.W. (Phylis) Smyklo Eades of Seminole, Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Homer (Janet) Knapp of Olympia, Washington, and Mrs. Robert (Frances) Dash of San Leandro, California; two brothers, Dr. Roy Gallagher of Pullman, Washington, and Eugene Gallagher of Roseburg, Oregon; nine grandchildren; and one stepgranddaughter. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt and Son Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Avenue, on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held there Saturday at 8:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church at 9 a.m. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Parish prayers will be recited at the funeral home Friday at 8:30 p.m.
